Relationship between urinary hydroxyproline and growth.

چکیده
Beginning with the report of Ziff, Kibrick, Dresner, and Gribetz (2), evidence accumulated in recent years has indicated that urinary hydroxyproline excretion reflects collagen metabolism, since collagen is the only protein in the body that contains hydroxyproline in significant amounts (3). Ziff and co-workers, observing that the excretion of this amino acid in peptide form was greater in children than in adults, suggested that the level of urinary hydroxyproline might be related to the size of the metabolically active, soluble collagen pool available for breakdown. The results of a number of investigations (4-7) have supported this suggestion. In the present paper, further investigation of the relationship between growth and hydroxyproline excretion has been carried out in man. Urinary hydroxyproline has been determined in patients with normal, arrested, and accelerated growth, and in cases in which arrested growth has been stimulated by hormonal therapy. The data obtained indicate that the level of excretion of hydroxyproline shows a good correlation with rate of growth under all circumstances studied and, therefore, offers a useful and readily measured index of this phenomenon.

Relationship between depression anxiety stress scale (DASS) and urinary hydroxyproline and proline concentrations in hospital workers.
OBJECTIVES Although increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) is caused by stress accelerates collagen degradation, there was no data on the relationship between stress and urinary hydroxyproline (Hyp) and proline (Pro), a good marker of collagen degradation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between depression, anxiety, and stress (DAS) and concentrations of urinary Hyp ...
متن کاملRelationship between body collagen and urinary hydroxyproline excretion in young rats fed on a low-protein or low-calorie diet.
I . Hydroxyproline was determined in urine, carcass, and skin of young rats fed on lowprotein and low-calorie diets. 2. Protein and calorie deprivation in young rats resulted in a marked fall in the soluble as well as insoluble collagen content of the skin. 3. The collagen content of the carcass (excluding skin) was slightly greater in the deficient rats than in the weanling rats, but very much...
متن کاملThe quantitative relationship of urinary peptide hydroxyproline excretion to collagen degradation.
To determine the quantitative relationship of urinary hydroxyproline peptide excretion to collagen breakdown, known quantities of radioactive hydroxyproline peptides were administered to unlabeled animals and excertion of radioactivity in respiratory carbon dioxide, urine, and feces was measured. The major routes of excretion of collagen peptide metabolites were respiratory carbon dioxide (75%)...
متن کاملThe relationship of height and weight velocities of adolescent boys to the total hydroxyproline: creatinine ratio in their random urines.
1. The total hydroxyproline: creatinine ratios in random urines collected every 3 months for 1 year from twenty-six adolescent boys (11-14 years) have been compared with the observed height and weight velocities of the boys during that year. 2. There were significant correlations of both height and weight velocities over 6 and 12 month periods with the ratios in the random urines collected duri...

Zorab, P. A., Clark, S., Harrison, A., and Seel, J. R. (1970). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 45, 763. Hydroxyproline excretion and height velocity in adolescent boys. The height velocity of 122 boys of 11 to 17 years is compared with their urinary total hydroxyproline excretion and a close relation is shown. The importance of this is discussed in relation to undersized children and to those...
